ELECTRIC CHARGES AND FIELDS (PART-1)|PHYSICS CHAPTER-1
Aims
In studying this chapter you should aim to understand the basic concepts of electric charge and field
and their connections. To test whether you have understood the concepts see if you can describe and
explain the applications in your own words.
Electrostatics:
It is the basis of industrial processes such as electrostatic spray painting, and xerography, and of the unintentional build-up of electrostatic charge which can trigger explosions and fires in, for example, grain silos and operating theatres.
The electrostatic force:
It is one variety of the general electromagnetic force. It is the basic interaction between charged bodies and it is called electrostatic.
Like charges repel.
Unlike charges attract.
Coulomb's law
A law stating that like charges repel and opposite charges attract, with a force proportional to the product of the charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
